Fans had previously assumed that Law would play the heroic Mar-Vell, the first person to hold the captain Marvel title. But if he actually plays Yon-Rogg, he could then become the main villain of the film or future movies.
Filmmakers of the film were careful not to reveal the name of Law's character and simply called him an "enigmatic commander" who heads the military elite Kree teamed with Starforce, which makes Carol party.
In the comics, Yon-Rogg is a Kree military commander who collaborates with Ronan the accuser (Lee Pace in the movie) take control of the Kree. He eventually becomes one of Carol's biggest enemies.
And with Ben Mendelsohn playing the role of the head of the evil Skrulls, it seems that Captain Marvel is surrounded by enemies from all sides.
