Dune Remake Is Getting a Companion Series from Director Denis Villeneuve

The Franchise Dune is already expanding and the new film is not close to make its way to the theaters for the moment. It is now clear that WarnerMedia gave a direct order to a new series entitled Dune : The Sisterhood to be broadcast on the airwaves broadcast service still untitled. Denis Villeneuve ( Arrival ), who directs the new film adaptation of Frank Herbert's classic science-fiction novel, will lead the pilot of the series and serve as producer.

This new show will take place in the same universe as the new film adaptation of Dune which currently revolves under Denis Villeneuve. It is said that this tale is focused on women and is in the same world. He will focus on a race of women within the sprawling epic of Frank Herbert called The Bene Gesserit. Jon Spaihts is about to write the script for the series, which will be produced by Legendary Television. Spaihts will also be producer alongside Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert, who will oversee the project on behalf of Frank Herbert's estate. Denis Villeneuve said this about the series in a statement.

"The Bene Gesserit has always been fascinating to me, focusing a series around this powerful order of women seemed not only relevant and inspiring, but also a dynamic setting for the television series."

Dune : The Sisterhood is centered on the Bene Gesserit and explores the future eyes of this mysterious order of women. These were gifted abilities, mastery of the body and mind. With their gifts, they mingle brilliantly with the feudal politics and intrigue of the Imperium, with their own projects that will eventually lead them to the planet Arrakis, known to those who live there simply under the name from from Dune . .

This is at the same time quite surprising and also not very shocking. When it was announced in November 2016 that Legendary had acquired the rights to Dune it was planned to turn it into a franchise. The studio is already planning to make a sequel to the film, which should arrive November 20, 2020, and also provides comics, games, etc. Frank Herbert has written six novels in the series. Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson added new installments, leaving more than 20 novels to shoot. So, there are certainly a lot of things to work on, assuming that a broad enough audience will buy this universe on a large scale.

WarnerMedia is trying to get into the video game streaming with its service next year, which will have to compete. with Netflix and Disney +, among others. To do this they will need premium content. Dune : The Sisterhood could very well qualify. For the moment, it is not known if Timothée Chalamet or one of the other members of the cast of the film will resume his roles in the series. It is also difficult to know when exactly we could see the beginnings of the series. This news had already been reported by the Hollywood Reporter.
