First Dark Phoenix Clip Brings an X-Men Standoff Over Jean Grey
The first clip of Dark Phoenix arrived online. It becomes sort of the blockbuster under the radar of the summer. Because Disney took over the Marvel properties that belonged to Fox, this is the last film X-Men that will be distributed in this continuity. Moreover, given the production problems that circulate, the excitement aroused by it has been tempered. That said, this first clip offers a potentially encouraging look at what awaits us next month.
This sequence is centered on a confrontation, unsurprisingly, between Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender). The division between these two is at the heart of these films since the first X-Men movie in 2000, when it was Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen in the respective roles. In this case, Professor X tries to prevent his old friend Eric from attacking Jean Gray, who has become extremely dangerous since the Phoenix Force crossed it. The clip is tense, well played and together in the good sense of the franchise.
Simon Kinberg, author and long-time producer in the franchise, made his directorial debut with Dark Phoenix . Normally, directors do not tackle a blockbuster of this size as their first film and who felt nervous. In the end, the studio ordered new mass shots. It is not very rare nowadays for the big films, even if in town there are big problems to solve. However, it is quite possible that these problems have been solved and that perhaps, we will perhaps have an appropriate final entry into the franchise X-Men before its inevitable restart. Not to mention The New Mutants which is a spin-off that will not include any of the main players in the distribution (to our knowledge).
