The Late Don Rickles Is Still Playing Mr. Potato Head in Toy Story 4
The legendary comedian Don Rickles will resume his role as Mr. Potato Head in Toy Story 4 . This has been a big question mark as we are fast approaching the release date of the sequel. Rickles described the iconic toy in the previous three entries of the Pixar franchise and had the role played again before his death in 2017. However, director Josh Cooley confirmed that Rickles would indeed be back.
At the present time, the answer to this question has raised other issues. It had previously been reported that Don Rickles had not recorded any of his votes off for Toy Story 4 at the time of his death. In addition, the film has undergone significant rewriting and history changes since. It is therefore difficult to know how and in what capacity Rickles will be used. In any case, Josh Cooley recently consulted Twitter to share a photo of the late comedian next to Mr. Potato Head with the following subtitle:
"All his pieces can be replaced, but his voice not honored he signed for TS4, honored to be in TS4. "
It would seem, given what we know, that there are two things we can safely assume. On the one hand, Mr. Potato Head will probably not have a very important role in the film. Not only because Don Rickles apparently would not have recorded his dialogue, but even if he had started, what had been recorded might not work perfectly with the final version of the script. The other is that they will use the previous recordings of the other three movies. There are definitely cut lines in the other films that could be reworked for this one. If Disney manages to bring back Carrie Fisher in the role of Princess Leia for Star Wars 9 they can surely succeed. The only drawback is that it could be a bit constraining if they only work with shots and old recordings.
Another key point here is that the distribution is huge for this component. In addition to core members such as Tom Hanks (Woody), Tim Allen (Buzz) and Annie Potts (Bo-Peep), several other voices have been incorporated into the story. This includes Tony Hale, Maddie McGraw, Christina Hendricks, Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Keanu Reeves, Ally Maki, Jay Hernandez, Lori Alan, Joan Cusack, Bonnie Hunt, Kristen Schaal, Emily Davis, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, John Ratzenberger, Blake Clark, June Squibb, Carl Weathers, Lila Sage, Jeff Garlin, Bargas-Good Maliah, Jack McGraw, Juliana Hansen and Estelle Harris. All of this to say, it is possible that they could use Mr Potato Head sparingly, but effectively because there are so many other characters with whom to work.

The good news is that no matter how this will work, one of the most essential elements of the franchise will be in place, one way or the other. Toy Story 4 should be released in theaters on June 21st. Be sure to check out Josh Cooley's Twitter account post below.
